DLF FORUM, FALL 2000
ON DIGITAL COLLECTIONS AND LIBRARY TRENDS
ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS
Apologies for cross posting
The Fall 2000 DLF Forum will be held in Chicago at the Midland Hotel on
18-20 November 2000. Presentations and panel discussions will bring a
variety of perspectives to bear on the development, maintenance, and use of
high-quality online resources and reflect upon how these activities affect
the library’s organization and its institutional roles. The Forum will also
provide an opportunity to showcase relevant DLF initiatives and seek input
into their future development. In addition, the Forum will provide an
excellent opportunity for networking with ample breaks and a reception for
socializing.
Staff at DLF member institutions are invited to register for the Forum by 1
October 2000 (registration details and further information about the forum
are available from http://www.clir.org/diglib/forums/fall2000.htm)
They are also invited to submit proposals for papers and panel discussions
by 15 September 2000. Proposals for presentations should include a title and
a brief (c.250 words) abstract. Proposals for panel discussions may be
slightly longer. They should include a title for the panel discussion, a
brief outline of its purpose, and a list of the panelists’ names with titles
and short descriptions for their respective contributions. All proposals,
along
with a list of any audio visual needs, should be submitted to
[log in to unmask]
with the subject heading "P&P".
Although the Forum’s theme is intentionally broad, there is particular
interest in papers and panel discussions that bear on any of the following
themes:
- Collection policies in practice: selection, acquisition, and resource
allocation in the development of hybrid (digital and non-digital) library
collections
- Integrating architectures for managing access to distributed, mixed media,
and heterogeneous information resources
- Approaches to promoting, supporting, and evaluating use of digital
collections
- Strategies for sustaining and enhancing digital collections, including
those relying on strategic partnerships and revenue generation
- Strategic, organizational, and technical approaches to federating
collections, for example, by integrating access to collections that are
distributed across institutions or through shared (multi-institutional)
collection development activities
We very much look forward to seeing you in Chicago.
Kind regards,
Dan
