The University of Tennessee Libraries seeks candidates for the position
of Grant Manager at the rank of Research Assistant Professor. The Grant
Manager reports to the University Archivist and works within the
University Libraries at the University of Tennessee , Knoxville . The
Grant Manager will direct the “The Growth of Democracy in Tennessee : A
Grass Roots Approach to Volunteer Voices,” a 2005 IMLS National
Leadership Grant. With $928,080 from IMLS this $1.8 million project,
sponsored by TENN-SHARE, will build a free, electronically accessible
database of 10,000 unique and thematically significant historical
digital items from Tennessee’s archives, libraries, museums, and other
repositories from across the state; create a statewide network of shared
resources, training opportunities, and common technical standards; and
begin to integrate digitized primary sources into the state’s K-12
curriculum.
The Grant Manager administers the 3-year grant, working closely with the
co-PIs and dozens of information and cultural heritage professionals
from across the state to help establish and operate three regional
digitization centers. The Grant Manager manages the staff of the East
Tennessee digitization center, develops timelines for project
completion, promotes the project through presentations and publications,
monitors the overall budget and coordinates statewide project
activities. Some travel is required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
ALA-accredited MLS degree; demonstrated experience with web-related
markup languages, web site design and organization, and standards-based
metadata schemes; demonstrated understanding of digitization/digital
projects. Project management experience. Effective analytical,
communication, and writing skills. Valid driver’s license
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Second Master’s degree; Supervisory experience, including the training
of student assistants; Experience working with digital library projects,
especially statewide or consortia based endeavors
ENVIRONMENT:
The University of Tennessee is the state’s flagship institution of

than $13 million, includes the John C. Hodges Main Library; the James D.
Hoskins Library, which includes the Map and Special Collection
Libraries; the Webster Pendergrass Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine
Library; and the George F. DeVine Music Library. The Social Work Library
is located in Nashville . Over three hundred persons are employed,
including 58 librarians, 10 exempt, 123 non-exempt, and 150 students. UT
Libraries is a member of the Association of Research Libraries, SOLINET,
and the Center for Research Libraries. The UT Libraries offers a
Web-based information system and access to a variety of electronic
information sources.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Appointment at rank of Research Assistant Professor. Salary is $38,000.
Excellent benefits include 24 annual leave days; choice of state
retirement plan or TIAA/CREF with nonrefundable contributions paid for

plans. Tuition remission is available for all university employees;
