The Metadata Enhancement and OAI Workshop will be held on July 24 - 25 at
Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. This one and a half day workshop will
bring together digital library professionals to examine automated and
semi-automated strategies for metadata enhancement and remediation scenarios
involving the OAI protocol. Some of the scenarios being considered include
normalization of date and format fields, and taxonomy generation /
assignment (through both clustering and classification techniques). The
workshop will result in an agenda for specific experiments to assess various
scenarios collaboratively in coming months, especially as part of the DLF
Aquifer project.
Workshop website: http://www.metascholar.org/events/2006/meow/
The workshop will include presentations and interactive discussions by the
California Digital Library on date normalization, Emory University and UC
Irvine on subject taxonomy generation and assignment, Illinois on automated
asset action operations, Johns Hopkins University on authority remediation,
Indiana University on evaluation of metadata remediation systems, and other
institutions and topics.
Registration for non-presenters is $50 to cover event meals. Seats are
limited, so interested parties should register soon. Workshop details
(presentation titles, times, etc.) will be updated on the website as details
are finalized.
This workshop is held with support from the Digital Library Federation and
the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
