While this isn't the usual type of job that passes across this list, I
thought it was worth circulating to the DLF community. The Penn State
Press reports to the Dean of Libraries, and they are looking to make a
significant push with the Office of Digital Scholarly Publishing.

Penn State University Press seeks a talented, energetic, and visionary
individual to serve as Head of the Editorial Department, Associate
Director of the Press, and Co-Director of the Office of Digital
Scholarly Publishing (ODSP), a joint initiative with Penn State
University Libraries. While managing the editorial program of both
scholarly and popular regional books, with annual output of fifty titles
in traditional print format, this individual will also help direct the
development of the ODSP as it engages in a variety of pioneering digital
projects, including books, journals, and conference proceedings.
As Editor-in-Chief, develop the editorial program of the Press, manage
the work of the acquisitions staff and the editorial process involving
a faculty editorial committee and academic series editors, and acquire
as many as twenty books in humanities or social sciences.
As Associate Director, assist the Director with overall strategic
planning and fund-raising, take primary responsibility for one or more
functional areas of Press management (financial, legal, personnel,
public relations, etc.), and represent the Press in its external
relations with the academic community, the publishing industry, and the
general public.
As ODSP Co-Director, prepare the strategic plan and annual budgets,
develops the ODSP editorial program within the framework of the Press's
own editorial program and the Library's various initiatives, hire and
train staff for the ODSP, work with the Library's development staff in
ODSP fund-raising efforts, and represent the public face of the ODSP at
meetings of professional and scholarly associations and through
publication of articles on digital publishing.
Requires Master's degree or equivalent, with strong educational
foundation in one or more fields where acquiring will be done preferred,
plus five years of work-related experience, preferably with a scholarly
publishing house. Thorough familiarity with academic research
procedures, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills
required. Candidate should have an established record of successful
acquisitions in the humanities or social sciences, substantial
experience in managing employees and working cooperatively with other
departments, and familiarity with innovations in digital technology as
applied to publishing. Experience with both PC and Macintosh computers
and with databases, knowledge of copyright law, and facility in one or
more foreign languages strongly preferred.
