Systems Analyst/Programmer: Digital Library Infrastructure (PA15)
Position#: 00028571
The Indiana University Digital Library Program (DLP) is seeking a
skilled developer and project manager to provide technical leadership to
a project to reengineer the DLP's technical infrastructure supporting
digital content storage and access. This new technical infrastructure
includes a Digital Library Repository Service based on the Fedora open
source repository system to support the storage and management of
digital images, text, audio files, video, and other content, plus a set
of tools and services to support ingestion, search and discovery,
digital object delivery and presentation, and preservation of digital
content.
Under minimal supervision from the Digital Library Program's Associate
Director for Technology, the Systems Analyst/Programmer: Digital Library
Infrastructure is responsible for the requirements analysis, design,
development, and implementation of the Digital Library Repository
Service and will also contribute to the design and implementation of the
overall digital library infrastructure reengineering project. Develops
requirements; defines system architecture; evaluates and implements
commercial and/or open-source software solutions; designs, codes and
tests software; evaluates and manages development priorities and
timelines; defines and implements interfaces with other IU systems, such
as the Massive Data Storage Service and Oncourse CL; and works with
other staff to define metadata and content standards.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related
technical discipline and four to five years of experience in the
development of complex software systems, including work in Java and
Perl, and two to three years of experience in relational database design
and programming, or an equivalent combination of education and
experience. Experience in Java web application development and Web
Services. Experience with XML and XML-related technologies. Experience
working in a Unix/Linux environment. Excellent oral and written
communication skills. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as
part of a team.
Preferred qualifications: A master's degree and experience in project
management. Experience with library systems and metadata standards.
Experience working with digital image, audio, and video formats.
Note: This position is funded for two years, with potential for renewal.
