ILS Manager

Job Description:
The UC Berkeley Library provides scholarly information to all faculty
and students in the support of the University's research and
instruction mission. The Library Systems Office (LSO) provides
technical support for Library, including developing; purchasing
and/or supporting all types' hardware platforms and software applications.
Responsibilities:
In first year. the focus will be on identifying ILS functional
requirements, establishing and working with multiple committees to
create and develop the Request For Proposal (RFP) following campus
guidelines, establishing the criteria upon which ILS proposals will
be evaluated and short-listed, managing both the RFP scoring and
selection processes, and oversee the installation of the new
ILS. Work with chosen ILS vendor to coordinate implementation and
resolve system problems that may arise.
After installation, manage changes and continuous improvements of the
ILS. Responsible for the daily operations and services for the ILS,
manages and evaluates requested changes and/or reports, coordinates
the creation of documentation, as well as support and training for
Library staff, and supervises ILS staff.
Until the full implementation of the ILS, manage the programmers
working on GLADIS. Work closely with existing staff to manage
requests for GLADIS changes and statistics.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the use and features of an ILS, how these are used in
a Library, and how records are exchanged between an ILS and other
systems (e.g., OCLC, Melvyl, LC, vendor systems)
- Understanding of many aspects of working in a networked computing
environment
- Understanding of project management best practices and procedures
- Knowledge of interface design
- Demonstrated reliable attendance
- Excellent supervision skills
-Knowledge of RFP procedures
- Highly developed analytic and communication skills (both oral and
written) including the ability to communicate technical issues
effectively with both technical and non-technical staff
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Attention to detail
- Proven ability to work within in a team environment and actively
promote collaboration
- Project management experience
Preferred: - Expertise in Library circulation and technical services
workflows
- Familiarity with GLADIS, Pathfinder, and Melvyl or similar systems
- First hand experience working with vendors of computer technology
and/or bibliographic utilities
-Understanding of academic personnel policies and business practices
