Consultant/Advisor II (Web & Print Designer)-08367
Description
The Digital Library and Information Technologies department is seeking a
Web and Print Designer. The chosen candidate will be responsible for the
design, development, and production of promotional materials and Web
interfaces and sites in support of digital library projects. Create
attractive, professional-quality designs, interfaces, and materials for
use in promotion. Manage all aspects of production of print materials for
DLIT services. Communicate with a wide range of staff in determining
requirements and implementing technical specifications. Serve as web
consultant on library projects and interfaces. Contribute to usability
assessments (interface and functionality) working with a cross-functional
team of library staff.
This is a term position through June 2010 with possibility of renewal.
Qualifications
BA or equivalent; Extensive experience with Web design and production;
Strong background with Web applications; Artistic/creative skills
necessary to design attractive, user-friendly Web interfaces and print
materials; Ability to work effectively with a variety of people on team
projects; Apply solid principles of graphic design, usability,
accessibility, and cultural sensitivity. A demonstrated knowledge of
Macintosh and Windows Operating System, HTML, CSS, Dreamweaver, Photoshop,
Flash, TCP/IP Networking Standards. Familiarity with database development
and management techniques and tools. Thorough knowledge of web design
standards, development of CSS-based layouts, and creating web sites that
meet ADA 508 accessibility compliance. Effective written and oral
communication skills; Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills;
Ability to work independently, carrying out detailed tasks with minimum
supervision.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with JavaScript, PHP, Flash
ActionScript, XML, XSLT, AJAX, and other Web scripting languages;
Experience with and knowledge of Content Management System
implementations; Knowledge of Intranet and Internet Networking standards;
Familiarity with Adobe InDesign, MySQL, MS Office Tools preferred.
Previous working experience in a cultural institution a plus. Project
management experience highly desired.
