The Columbia University Libraries/Information Services(CUL/IS) seek an experienced, innovative professional with a strong understanding of research universities to lead and direct a unique mix of digital programs and technology services that work together to support the research and teaching needs of the University. The Associate Vice President for Digital Programs and Technology Services (AVP, DPTS) provides leadership in organizational strategy, collaboration, resource development, and system-wide technological change. The AVP, DPTS is a member of the CUL/IS Executive Committee and works in close collaboration with the Associate University Librarian (AUL) for Collections and Services, the AUL for Bibliographic Services and Collections, and the AVP for Finance, Administration and Human Resources. Digital Programs and Technology Services (DPTS) includes approximately 100 staff and is composed of the following divisions:
• The Columbia Center for New Media Teaching and Learning (CCNMTL) partners with Columbia faculty to enhance teaching and learning through the purposeful use of new media. CCNMTL supports a range of efforts from basic course websites to advanced project development. See http://ccnmtl.columbia.edu/
• The Center for Digital Research and Scholarship (CDRS) develops and provides services in support of research and scholarship, such as journal and conference hosting, and manages the University’s institutional repository. See http://cdrs.columbia.edu/cdrsmain/
• The Copyright Advisory Office (CAO) offers guidance and educational services to the University community on a wide range of issues relating to intellectual property. See http://copyright.columbia.edu/copyright/
• The Libraries Digital Program Division (LDPD) plans and oversees the Libraries Fedora-based long term digital archive, collection-based digitization projects, and the Libraries’ Website. See http://www.columbia.edu/cu/libraries/inside/units/ldpd/
• Preservation and Digital Conversion Division (PRD) has responsibility for preserving the Libraries collections in all formats, and manages the Digitization Lab. See http://www.columbia.edu/cu/lweb/services/preservation/
• The Library Information Technology Office (LITO) provides infrastructure support across the organization, manages staff and public desktops, including the Libraries’ Digital Centers, and runs the library management systems.
Key responsibilities:

o Forecast and advocate for technology services, equipment and support and work with DPTS directors to shape the appropriate mix of locally hosted and externally hosted support infrastructure.
o Advance scholarly communications and digital repository services including the development of Academic Commons, the University’s institutional repository. Monitor and advocate for open access developments
o In collaboration with the AULs: lead the development of effective online user interfaces for CUL resource offerings; define and develop the Libraries program for digitization and the long-term preservation of digital resources; foster collaboration and joint service development between the Libraries public services units and the DPTS groups; and ensure effective collaboration in the development and presentation of the Libraries digital resources
o Support growth of initiatives through grants. Represent Columbia in appropriate national and international forums
