[NDSA-STANDARDS] FW: [NISO tc46ballots] REPLIES NEEDED by April 6 RE:
ISO/IEC JTC1 re Incubator Group on Digital Preservation
Hi all ~
I hear through the grapevine that the NDSA coordinating committee thought
it might be important for the standards working group to develop a
vocabulary for preservation. If so, It may be worthwhile for us to try and
coordinate with what will be a newly established JTC1 group on a similar
project.

Subject: [NISO tc46ballots] REPLIES NEEDED by April 6 RE: ISO/IEC JTC1 re
Incubator Group on Digital Preservation
ISO/IEC Joint Technical Committee 1 - Information Technology (JTC 1) is
creating an Incubator Group on Digital Preservation, chaired by Mr.
Linpeng Gao from the China Electronic Standardization Institute (CESI).
The Incubator Group, chartered for one year, will research the important
issue of digital preservation standardization. The Incubator Group intends
to propose a harmonized vocabulary for digital preservation, based on a
collection and study of digital preservation vocabularies from various
standards, and to develop a framework for digital preservation
interoperability, which will allows preservation of the full range of
digital data types. The Incubator Group will report its findings to JTC 1.
JTC1 has further proposed that it act as the Parent Group of the Incubator
Group on Digital Preservation.
TC46/SC11 as a liaison to JTC1 regarding records-related matters has been
notified of these plans and asked if they have any objections for JTC1 to
be the parent group. TC46/SC11 will have the opportunity to identify one
or more participants to the Incubator Group.
If you have any objection to JTC1 taking the lead on this incubator
project, please notify me no later than April 6, 2012.
If you would like to nominate anyone to participate and represent ISO/TC
46/SC11 as a liaison expert, please send me the name and full contact
information by the same date.
