Subject: launch of new Electronic Records Management Standard

[This message has been sent to padiforum-l. Apologies if you have already
received this message on another list.]

The Public Record Office Victoria (Australia) Standard for the Management of
Electronic Records in the Victorian Government (PROS 99/007) was launched on
26
April by the Victorian Minister for State and Regional Development, the Hon.
John Brumby.

The Standard will be of interest to all those concerned with the long term
preservation and management of electronic information, especially those who
have
been following the developments of the Public Record Office's Electronic
Records
Strategy.

The Standard details the primary requirements for the management and
preservation of electronic records in the Victorian public sector. It has
three
specifications which provide technical detail about the long term
preservation
of electronic records, the requirements necessary for records management
systems
which maintain electronic records and the metadata required for the proper
management and retention of electronic records.

The Standard is available at
http://www.prov.vic.gov.au/gservice/standard/pros9907.htm

A call for tenders has also been announced to implement the Standard and
recommendations from the Victorian Electronic Records Strategy Final Report
(
http://www.prov.vic.gov.au/vers/) within a government agency in Victoria.
Copies
of the tender are available at http://www.vgpb.vic.gov.au - see the "VERS
tender" listed under "Department of Infrastructure".
