The DLF
Electronic Resource Management Initiative Steering Group is in the process of
creating a host of documents for use by libraries and vendors to
facilitate management of electronic resources. (For details, please see
http://www.diglib.org/standards/dlf-erm02.htm).
We have
purposely kept the Steering Group small (seven individuals from six
institutions) to make the process of doing the work more manageable, but
this small size brings with it a narrower perspective than a larger one would
provide. To broaden our view of the issues, the ERMI Steering Group is forming
two "Reactor Panels": one for librarians and one for vendors. (Members of
the Reactor Panels are asked to serve through the duration of the project, which
runs until the end of 2003.)
As we release
drafts of deliverables, such as the project's Roadmap, Entity
Relationship Diagram, lists of data elements and
definitions, etc. the members of the two reactor panels will be asked
to review them carefully and send us comments. Members of the
Steering Group will then discuss the comments received and incorporate input
into subsequent document versions.
Details on the composition of the
Vendor Reactor Panel will be forthcoming, but we have commitments already from
several organizations active in this area, including EBSCO, Innovative
Interfaces, ExLibris, OCLC, and the Colorado Alliance.
The following librarians -- each of
whom has expressed a strong interest in E-resource management issues and systems
-- have been invited and agreed to serve on the Librarian Reactor
Panel:
Robert Alan (Penn
State)
Trisha Davis (Ohio State)
Ellen Duranceau (MIT)
Christa Easton
(Stanford)
Ron Gilmour (Tennessee)
Nancy Hoebelheinreich
(Stanford)
James Mouw (U. of Chicago)
Norm Medeiros (Haverford
College)
Jim Stemper (University of
Minnesota)
Paula Watson (University of
Illinois)
The Steering Group will be happy
to consider adding a few more Librarian Reactor Panel members from DLF libraries
with similar levels of interest and background who are willing and able to
invest time in reviewing document drafts over the next couple of months.
Please feel free to contact me with any
questions.
