JISC RESOURCE GUIDES UPDATED AND IMPROVED

The new JISC Resource Guide For Arts and Humanities is published today,
providing an overview of the quality-assured information about
electronic
resources and support services, selected by subject specialists.

After extensive consultation with community representatives, including
librarians, academics, researchers and students, as well as publishers
and
providers, the Resource Guides have been updated and improved.
Improvements
in the new edition include:

* Attractive full-colour booklet format
* New resource categories reflecting the needs of subject communities
* New and simpler definitions for accessing electronic resources
* Full information on search tips, training and support activities

Resources and services highlighted in the Resource Guides are designed
to
support learning, teaching and research at all levels of higher
education.
Each Guide is compiled by a dedicated Resource Guide Adviser who selects
the
key resources for the subject area and presents them in both print and
Web
format.

In consultation with subject communities, Advisers offer a programme of
outreach activities in response to subject needs, including hands-on
workshops and training events. They also play a crucial role in
soliciting
community feedback, helping to ensure that communication about the
provision
and use of resources and support and advisory services remains two-way.
The
seven subject areas are:

Arts and Humanities
Engineering, Mathematics and Computing
Geography and the Environment
Health and Life Sciences
Hospitality, Leisure, Sport and Tourism
Physical Sciences
Social Sciences

Resource Guide Advisers compile each Guide in consultation with
subject-based advisory groups comprising librarians, academics and other
relevant parties. Resources considered for inclusion include those from
partner organisations, such as the Learning and Teaching Support Network
(LTSN) and the Research Councils.

Resource Guides are currently being sent to key staff within
institutions.
