The University of Michigan includes JPEG2000 delivery support in DLXS. DLXS is, in part, a system for providing access to full text, image, finding aid, and bibliographic content on a large scale. Specifically, DLXS Image Class uses JPEG2000 to provide access to continuous tone images like those typically found in museum, visual resources, and special library collections. Image Class provides robust cross-collection search and retrieval, along with advanced image viewing functionality such as zooming. DLXS middleware is distributed as Open Source, and Image Class can be implemented with the Open Source database MySQL. DLXS support is available a fee. DLXS includes unix command line tools for encoding and expanding JPEG2000 compressed files in the JP2 and JPX formats. The next release (12) of DLXS adds to Text Class JPEG2000 support for continuous tone page images. Note that the vast majority of the 300,000 images in our system use MrSID, which is also supported by Image Class.
