Library Integrated Products Team Leader

The Los Alamos National Laboratory Research Library is a pioneering and
internationally renowned technical library that provides electronic
products and services to support the Laboratory's world class science.
The Research Library employs a dedicated and knowledgeable staff of 60
to provide products and services, and to ensure that the digital library
positions itself to anticipate and meet Laboratory scientific research
needs.

The Research Library is looking for a Library Integrated Products (LIP)
Team Leader to lead a twelve member team responsible for both
traditional Technical Services work and doing leading-edge work with our
Digital Library products and services.

Several aspects of the LANL Research Library make it a unique and
exciting place to work:

* Local loading and management of a huge data repository including:

        o 6,000 electronic journal titles from 410 publishers; over 6
million
        articles locally loaded
        o 6,000 electronic books
        o nine locally loaded databases with over 70 million citations
        o growing collections of electronic conference proceedings
        o local repository of Los Alamos sponsored research

* Personalization services

* A variety of both locally developed and commercial software tools to
provide integration of resources

* An internationally renowned R&D team which integrates cutting edge
Digital 
Library research into the production tools the Research Library uses

* An active outreach and education program designed to train, educate,
and 
communicate with Laboratory customers

Current LIP processes focus on:

* Providing scientific research information to LANL scientists by adding
content to Library collections (both print and electronic)

* Making content accessible to customers via metadata management and
license management for e-resources

* Ongoing, rigourous Q/A and testing of new products and services,
including prototypes developed by the R&D groups and software
updates/upgrades for existing electronic resources.

* Providing services for electronic document delivery, book circulation,
and inter-library loans

* Managing the physical environment for the print collections

* Providing customer support for products and services

The Research Library is organized by team, with a strong cross-team
collaborative approach to communication and knowledge sharing. The LIP
Team 
Leader will supervise, mentor, and coach team members to ensure that
they most effectively contribute to team and Group responsibilities and
will ensure that team processes are managed according to Research
Library business practices, and that team members align with the Group
Mission and Vision.

A successful candidate should have:

* A demonstrated ability to effectively communicate within a team,
across teams within the Library, and with Managers and vendors

* Demonstrated experience coordinating collection selection and
acquisitions in collaboration with vendors, institutional procurement
staff, Library budget staff, publishers, and Library collection
development team members

* Understanding of the tools used for Digital Library products and
services, such as web pages, databases, electronic journals, and the
wide variety of metadata formats and software represented

* Experience with evaluating and testing Digital Library products,
communicating enhancement requests derived from customer feedback and
providing customer support

* A business approach for decision making as part of the implementation
of products and services

* A track record of experience in the Library/Information Industry and
an interest in/understanding of initiatives in the Digital Library
community, such as the work of standards bodies and other DL activities.

* A high degree of commitment to understanding Laboratory customers and 
supporting their research needs.
