Job Description
The British Columbia Electronic Library Network has a continuing, full
time vacancy for a Project Coordinator.

Setting:
The British Columbia Electronic Library Network (BC ELN) is a
partnership between the Province of British Columbia and its
post-secondary libraries. BC ELN's purpose is to develop, promote, and
maintain system-wide mechanisms that allow post-secondary libraries to
meet the expanding information needs of the province's learners and
researchers in the most cost-effective way. BC ELN is funded by the BC
Ministry of Advanced Education, with offices located in the W.A.C.
Bennett Library, Simon Fraser University (Burnaby Mountain campus).
Simon Fraser University serves as BC ELN's administrative home, and BC
ELN employees are appointed under the appropriate SFU employee
agreements.


Assignment:
- Planning, developing, and implementing innovative projects in support
of BC ELN goals and objectives
- Developing and maintaining the BC ELN web site, content management
system, and related modules
- Assisting partner libraries with the integration of emerging
technologies and protocols for database access and resource sharing
initiatives
- Planning for technology migrations as they affect BC ELN services
- Coordinating the development and delivery of system documentation
- Overseeing technical support for database applications and other
services across multiple sites and platforms, via liaison with BC ELN
service providers and partner libraries

It is expected that the Project Coordinator will also play a
significant role in communications among BC ELN libraries and with
external organizations, and will participate in overall planning and
service evaluation within BC ELN.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Master of Library Science from an ALA-accredited program (or
equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience
- Experience in medium-scale web site design, construction, and
maintenance
- Strong understanding of networking standards, protocols, and system
integration issues
- Knowledge of challenges facing libraries in the delivery of
electronic information
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collegial team
environment with both public service and technical staff
- Demonstrated ability to respond to flexible service requirements and
working arrangements
- Demonstrated leadership abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Knowledge of web scripting languages, especially PHP and Perl, and
relational database design, is highly desirable; as is experience with
library technologies, standards, and protocols such as EZproxy, MARC,
and Z39.50. Experience with multiple computer operating systems,
including Mac OS X, Windows, and Unix, is also desirable. A background
in the provision of public services or systems support, preferably in
an academic environment, and familiarity with library consortia, are
strong assets.
