Position: Metadata Quality Coordinator
Reports to: Director of Technology

CrossRef, a membership association for collective scholarly publishing
technologies, seeks a Metadata Quality Coordinator to maintain and
improve the quality of our metadata database of bibliographic
information for scholarly publications. This position provides technical
support to our member publishers addressing problem resolution and
instructional issues related to the use of CrossRef’s services. The
Metadata Quality Coordinator will create and analyze reports to identify
issues, notify members of errors and track developments to make sure
that problems are resolved. The Metadata Quality Coordinator will report
to the Director of Technology and will work with the Metadata Quality
Committee of the Board of Directors on data quality issues. In addition,
the Metadata Quality Coordinator will work with the Director of Business
Development as the technical liaison with regards to metadata quality
for CrossRef services and compliance with CrossRef guidelines. CrossRef
has a small staff and the ability to work independently, to be flexible
and to perform a wide variety of duties is essential.

Key Tasks

- provide frontline support to member publishers
- proactively track numerous system reports on metadata quality
- proactively contact publishers to fix problems identified by system
reports and to check for compliance with data submission requirements
- track outstanding issues and problem resolution
- management and normalization of journal, book and conference
proceedings title lists
- provide advice and basic technical support to members regarding data
quality
- produce data quality reports that will involve analyzing data for trends
- regular ongoing data correction
- make suggestions for ways to improve data quality
- make suggestions for improving overall metadata quality and
establishing best practices
- maintain skills through attendance of workshops and training courses

This position requires knowledge of XML and experience in scholarly
publishing or an academic library environment. The qualified individual
will have at least two years of full-time work experience, will have
strong communication skills and be comfortable interacting with both
business and technical staff at member publishers. The qualified
individual will have hands on experience working with databases and XML
and preferably have electronic production experience. Some knowledge of
scripting languages (e.g. PERL, MS Macros) is preferred.

Qualifications/requirements:

- Excellent organizational and written/verbal communication skills
- Bachelor's degree; scholarly publishing experience or MLS preferred
- Electronic publishing production or academic library experience a plus
- Minimum two years relevant work experience in the research
information, library or scholarly publishing area, with strong
recommendations
- Strong knowledge of XML and database technology
- Excellent computer skills with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word,
Excel, Access, Outlook s
- Knowledge of PERL, MS Macros or other languages
