Position available: Software Developer

The Canadian Association of Research Libraries is seeking a software
developer to work on the AlouetteCanada Metadata Toolkit
(http://www.alouettecanada.ca/nmrdi/nmrdi-e.php). This project is funded
until March 2008 by the the Department of Canadian Heritage's Canadian
Culture Online New Media Research and Development Initiative
(http://www.pch.gc.ca/ccop-pcce/index_e.cfm).

Qualifications for this position are:

-MLIS or extensive experience in libraries and/or working with digital
collections
-Broad knowledge of issues surrounding distributed metadata creation and
management
-Knowledge of current and emerging standards for metadata used in the
Canadian library, archives, and museum communities, such as MODS, METS,
PREMIS, EAD, and Dublin Core
-Broad knowledge of software applications and accompanying workflows for
content and metadata creation
-Minimum 2 years' experience developing in web application frameworks
such as RoR and Symfony; familiarity with object-oriented programming;
familiarity with agile programming practices would be an asset
-Experience in developing, maintaining, and supporting content
management, search and retrieval, and metadata harvesting applications
would be an asset
-Demonstrated team player and independent worker
-Demonstrated ability to write effective technical documentation for a
variety of audiences

Salary for this position is $40/hour at 35 hours per week.  The contract
begins in May 2007 and will run to a maximum of 40 weeks.

Reporting to the Project Manager but interacting with a variety of the
Project Team members and consultants, the successful candidate will work
from his or her location of choice in a supportive, team-oriented
environment using a variety of networked collaboration technologies such
as email, chat, and VOIP.
