------ Forwarded Message The Great Migration: Audio Preservation in the Digital Age North Carolina Preservation Consortium 2007 Annual Conference November 2, 2007 9 AM 4 PM William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Chapel Hill, NC The handling and conversion of audio materials is one of the most daunting areas of preservation. Institutions of all types and sizes maintain audio collections and are often at a loss as to how to physically assess the material, how to reformat materials to an acceptable preservation standard, and how to manage such preservation projects. At the same time, audio is among the most unstable formats; due to the obsolescence of playback equipment, most old recordings are at risk of becoming inaccessible within decades. This year's North Carolina Preservation Consortium Conference will address current standards and best practices in audio preservation. Come hear and interact with our panel of experts about the hands-on reality of managing both small and large audio preservation projects in the digital age. Personnel performing, managing, or advocating for the preservation and conservation of collections, particularly sound recordings, are encouraged to attend this conference. Faculty and students in library and information science, archives, public history, museum, and conservation graduate schools are also welcome.
