PAYROLL TITLE: PROGRAMMER/ANALYST IV - SUPERVISOR FULL SALARY RANGE:
$56,500 - $128,000 / ANNUALLY

 

 

 

DESCRIPTION: 

Under the direction of the Assistant Department Head for
Development/Digital Library Architect, the Manager of Development leads,
directs, and coordinates the Development Unit of the Libraries'

Information Technology (IT) Department in the design, development,
implementation, configuration, maintenance, documentation, and promotion
of the UCSD Libraries' extensible Digital Resource Environment (XDRE).

XDRE is a large, complex, and highly scalable system of software and
hardware components which provides a flexible Service Oriented
Architecture for the development and delivery of a wide variety of
applications with extensive storage and metadata requirements. XDRE
integrates San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) grid-based Storage
Resource Broker (SRB) middleware with World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
supported Semantic Web standards and technologies. XDRE is the software
development framework upon which the libraries' Development Unit builds
applications in support of the libraries' core mission: "to be leaders
in providing and promoting information resources and services to the
UCSD community". In addition, the Manager of Development provides
leadership and assistance concerning various other software systems
which either utilize or integrate with XDRE to support the Libraries'

public internet presence (libraries.ucsd.edu), Digital Asset Management
System (DAMS)(libraries.ucsd.edu/dams), internal business systems
(libnet.ucsd.edu), and is responsible for the UCSD top-level campus
website (www.ucsd.edu). 

 

The Manager of Development serves as manager and technical expert and
collaborates closely with the Libraries' DAMS Project Coordinating Team
and library business system users, as well as with the Operations Unit
and Development Unit members. 

 

The Manager of Development trains and supervises the Development team in
all aspects of analysis, program design, and programming as well as job
performance and hiring. 

 

The Manager of Development confers and collaborates with the IT
Management Group in departmental planning. 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

*Demonstrated advanced experience with project management including
leading project teams. 

 

*Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Java-based software
development. 

 

*Proven software engineering experience including software testing and
integration, version control systems, and development/distribution
methodologies. 

 

*Demonstrated advanced system integration/problem analysis skills.

Demonstrated expert knowledge on computer systems design with
comprehensive understanding of the integration of systems (hardware,
software, and networks) and the ability to implement/integrate systems
in an innovative manner, particularly applications which include the
integration of directory and relational database services into web based
applications, and applications which integrate information systems from
different vendors into a unified user interface. 

 

*Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects that are not
necessarily well defined and to manage constantly changing priorities. 

 

*Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills including
proficiency skill to clearly and concisely communicate detailed
information over the phone, in writing, and in-person; demonstrated
experience to train and instruct others in the usage of departmental
hardware and software resources, to develop and document department
operating procedures, and to document system development activity. 

 

*Proven skill to effectively recruit, supervise, motivate and evaluate
staff. 

 

*Demonstrated ability to develop rapport with key personnel, management,
and staff in inter-departmental collaborative efforts. Ability to
demonstrate tact, sensitivity, and diplomacy when representing IT
Department in a socio-political environment. Demonstrated strong
customer service values.
