XML DEVELOPER - Digital Collections and Archives (27912) Employment Status: Limited Appointment Job description: ----- This is a grant-funded, limited appointment position with an end date of December 31, 2009. The Digital Collections and Archives (DCA) is the steward of the University's permanently valuable records and collections created in any format, ensuring their permanent preservation and accessibility. The DCA supports the Tufts Digital Repository and Tufts Digital Library, the University-wide Records Management Program, and the University Archives and Manuscript Collections. As a central library, the DCA serves all schools and divisions of the University. Working with the school libraries and other stakeholders, the office sets the standards and creates the procedures necessary to acquire, manage, and provide access to the materials it collects. The XML Developer is an 18-month, grant-funded position in the Digital Collections and Archives. The XML Developer will be working on the Tufts Accessioning Program for Electronic Records (TAPER) Project, an electronic records Program Expansion Grant project funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC), part of the National Archives and Records Administration. The project will focus on developing machine-readable submission agreements to facilitate and document the transfer of electronic records with enduring value to the DCA. The XML Developer will be responsible for: Designing, developing, documenting, and deploying an XML Schema for submission agreements that can be validated; Designing, developing, documenting, and deploying a web-based tool for records creators and the DCA to generate submission agreements; Designing, developing, documenting, and deploying a submission agreement content model for a Fedora repository environment. Basic Requirements: Bachelor’s degree Minimum of one year of related experience Strong knowledge of XML, XSLT is a must Preferred Qualifications: An MS in Computer Science or ALA-accredited MLS with a significant technical component is strongly desired; or equivalent combination of advanced degree and relevant experience. Knowledge of JSP and Java are strongly preferred. Knowledge of the Fedora repository system is strongly desired. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of Perl and XSL-FO. Knowledge of other digital repository systems is a plus. Knowledge of and experience with electronic records management and digital preservation issues is highly valued.
