Programmer/Analyst - Interface Designer (7478BR)
Division of Libraries - NYU

New York University seeks a Programmer/Analyst to join the Digital  
Library Technology Services department as an Interface Designer. The  
successful candidate will have a strong background designing user  
interfaces for both web sites and web applications, and will meet the  
requirements below.

Recent experience with Web 2.0 interface technologies, namely AJAX.
Detailed current knowledge of user interface and usability design  
concepts.
Complete competency with HTML, CSS and Javascript.
Graphic design skills.
Some experience with search engine optimization.
Some experience developing and deploying web applications using  
technologies such as Java/JSP, Perl CGI, Ruby on Rails.
Experience working in a Unix / Linux web development environment.
Experience with XML and XSLT.

In this role the successful candidate will design and develop web  
interfaces for digital collections, academically-oriented social  
networking applications, and other tools for the production,  
distribution, and consumption of digital scholarly materials. The  
successful candidate will have Bachelor’s degree and 2 years’ of web  
site interface development or equivalent combination of education and  
experience.
The ideal candidate will also work closely with back-end programmers,  
functional requirements writers, project managers, web designers, and  
graphic designers.

Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of digital  
library standards and practices (e.g., METS, MODS, OAIS) and with  
experience in research libraries.
