I think you probably need to come up with a long term plan with real institutional commitment. Storing files and making sure they are backed up is all well and good, but that is only one part of a long term digital preservation project. How are you protecting against bit rot? what about formats that become obsolete? etc. We are planning to outsource our longterm digital preservation because we do not have the staff to maintain it.
