Hi All,

I just wanted to see if what I am thinking makes sense to you, as fello
code4libbers.

I have a list of ISBNs, the catalogue of an specialist e-book vendor. I
have another, shorter, list of ISBNs from our own collection, for that
specialist subject.

I want to see how much of an overlap there is.

This is easy to do in Excel, with the VLOOKUP() function. I did that on
thursday.

My problem though is that there can be many different ISBNs for a single
book.

I want to match works, not editions, to get a better idea of coverage. This
is because we are likely to have older editions of some of the works on the
ebooks list.

So, I am thinking of getting someone here to write a web application next
week, which will do this comparison of works, not ISBNs. It will use the
ThingISBN and/or XISBN APIs to make the matches.

We want to make this comparison to enable us to make a purchasing decision
regarding the electronic books.

Thoughts?

Best,

David.
