**Job Summary**  
  
Working as a member of the Library Systems and Technologies team, the Systems
Administrator will design, implement and support technical solutions in
support of the University's teaching, research and service mission. Duties
include: providing systems support to key Library systems infrastructure;
recommending and implementing strategies for securing all aspects of computing
resources including servers, operating systems, etc.; analyzing,
troubleshooting and solving problems on complex server systems, including
hardware and operating systems; providing systems support; installing and
maintaining a variety of server systems including hardware and software for
SQL servers, application servers, web servers, email servers, terminal
servers, virtualization servers, Microsoft clusters, Apple Mac servers, Active
Directory servers, etc.; configuring and troubleshooting public and staff
workstations and printing systems; cross-training, collaborating, and sharing
selected duties with other Systems staff in the Library, in central
Information Technology Services and other IT units on campus; and developing
and implementing server policies, procedures and standards.

  
**Qualifications**  
  
The successful candidate will possess a relevant post-secondary degree or
diploma (or the equivalent combination of education and experience), together
with extensive background and expertise in server administration in various
platforms such as VMware vSphere, Windows 2008, Windows 2003, Mac OS X Server,
UNIX and Linux. The successful candidate will be well versed in web
applications and database design, the Visual Studio .NET environment, with
working knowledge of various languages, including C, C#, JAVA, PHP, PERL,
Visual Basic, and SQL. In depth knowledge of printing systems, such as Windows
printing, LPD, CUPS and IPP, would be beneficial. MCSE, MVP and related
certifications would be an asset. The ability to simultaneously support
multiple projects, timelines, and deadlines together with excellent problem
solving, organizational and analytical skills are also required. Effective
communication, including active listening, and interpersonal skills are
necessary to work with users to understand their needs in order to interface
their needs with system requirements.
