I have used Google Calendar for personal projects and I agree that it's easy to use. Here's some PHP code I've used to have Google Calendar power a simple calendar page: https://github.com/media-uk/GCalPHP However, I think that this is such a common task for university libraries that it would be a great project to collaborate on.
