If you would like to join this exciting organization, apply today! The incumbent will serve as a Library Technician at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO), John G. Wolbach Library. DUTIES: The purpose of this position is to assist and support the Head Librarian, Digital Resources librarian, as well as other staff by managing both library and CFA metadata and by performing tasks that support library metadata curation activities and technical services. Duties include but are not limited to: serving as a catalyst for creating and enhancing library content management systems, websites and programs; interacting with library staff and patrons and designing, developing and implementing systems and programs tailored to meet their information needs; updating and modifying library systems and programs, curating metadata through data entry activities and ensuring contents are clear and accurate; researching information technology trends and suggesting technologies to aide with library workflows and metadata management; assisting with various multimedia, web publishing and/or data management and curation projects; providing support for traditional library services including identification, processing and management of materials. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level (Grade 5) in the normal line of progression for the position. Experience at this level normally would equip the applicant with knowledge of web publishing software and application; skills in using electronic library systems for verification of bibliographic resources, cataloging and research services; ability using automated databases or spreadsheet management programs for entering and extracting data for the tracking and formulation of reports.
