Join the team at the Elmer E. Rasmuson Library at UAF, the largest library in
Alaska! We are seeking a Systems Administrator/Programmer who appreciates the
needs of an academic environment, enjoys working in diverse cultural setting
and being part of a dynamic team of friendly, knowledgeable and dedicated
individuals. Flexibility,attention to detail and ability to work under tight
deadlines is a must.

  
Must possess theoretical and practical knowledge to develop (programming and
system analysis) systems and adapt to rapidly changing technology. Incumbent
must have extensive system administration experience working with Windows and
Unix/Linux operating systems. Ability to install, configure and back-up
advanced software applications such as compilers, databases, emulators and
clusters. Incumbent must have extensive knowledge of network management,
diagnostic tools and security application. Successful applicants must have
demonstrated knowledge/expertise with Perl, PHP and CSS and at least two of
the following programming/scripting languages (Python, JSP, Javascript, XHTML,
XML, XSL/T or API) and demonstrated knowledge/expertise with relational
databases (Oracle, mySQL, DB2). Ability to propose and plan configuration
changes, including time and cost estimates, using accepted project management
techniques.

  
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent experience. Advanced
degree in related field desired.

  
Applicant must have at least two years system administration with Unix/Linux
and Windows server environments. The experience should include configuring and
upgrading operating system and application software, applying
security/maintenance patches, monitoring and tuning system performance.

  
Incumbent should have a good understanding of HTTP & HTTPS server concepts and
basic knowledge of Web services (e.g., SOAP, UDDI, WSDL, etc.) and the concept
of SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture). Ability to do resource capacity
planning and management debugging various network protocols preferred.

  
Demonstrated communication and strong interpersonal skills, the ability to
work on multiple projects with shifting priorities and a propensity for
learning new technologies. Proven ability to interact with various levels of
staff in a team-oriented collaborative environment. Possess excellent written
and verbal communication skills including the ability to provide information
clearly and concisely. Experience with project management.
