The UK Data Archive at the University of Essex is an internationally renowned centre of expertise in data acquisition, preservation, dissemination and promotion. It is curator of the UK's largest collection of digital data in the social sciences and humanities. It is also a partner in delivering the UK Data Service an online portal for social science data, documentation and guidance. Both are vital resources for researchers, policymakers, teachers and students around the world. We are now seeking to appoint a Dot Net Applications Developer to join the Technical Services section of the UK Data Archive. The section provides support for the critical needs of the other divisions in the UK Data Archive, developing, maintaining and updating internal and external systems which are in everyday use. All members of the section use Continuous Integration and Testing on a daily basis. You will be part of a small team of developers that is responsible for the design and implementation of new Dot Net applications, plus the maintenance and migration to the Data Archive's Service Oriented Architecture of legacy Dot Net applications. You should have a first degree in a computing related discipline. You should also have experience of using Dot Net in a production environment, following a Continuous Integration and Testing approach to software development together with experience of creating and maintaining programming specifications. This is a full time, fixed-term position for one year. The UK Data Archive is ISO 27001, certified for Information Security Management.
