We are currently seeking applications for a Senior Data Coordinator within the
Fisheries Data Group of Marine Scotland Science (MSS) based at the Marine
Laboratory, Aberdeen.

  
This post contributes towards [Scotland's National
Outcomes](http://www.scotland.gov.uk/About/Performance/scotPerforms/outcome)
by providing data to scientific end-users through the use of specific business
intelligence tools and the management of content within the Marine Scotland
Science Fisheries Management Database. The post holder will work with Quality
and Data Managers to provide support in quality management and the creation
and management of metadata relevant to Marine Scotland Science's (MSS)
research and monitoring portfolio.

  
Duties include the initiation and fulfilment of the quarterly and annual data
refreshes of the Fisheries Management Database (FMD) from the regulatory
Fisheries Information Network (FIN), including initial quality checks on the
imported data; Maintenance/development of software routines to facilitate the
relevant quality checks and to report on and assist in resolving data
irregularities; and assisting scientific staff at all levels with the creation
and management of metadata for new research projects and monitoring activities
under service level agreements.

  
**Qualifications & Experience Required**  
You must hold a minimum of an undergraduate degree in a discipline in which
computational approaches to problem solving comprised a significant element.
Please note that other, equivalent qualifications may also be acceptable. This
post will require you to have relevant IT skills including demonstrable
experience in the use of a high level programming language or scripting
language within software applications (Examples include FORTRAN, R, C or VBA);
Proven experience in assimilating technical knowledge and proficiency in
bridging the gap between technical experts and the broader user community; and
a working knowledge of data flow including data capture, screening and storage
and the ability to evaluate data in terms of content and quality with
scrupulous attention to detail.
