Reporting to the Head of Special Collections, this provides leadership in the management and use of the university's digital, multimedia, and paper-based records and publications. Responsibilities include managing the identification, appraisal, acquisition, description, storage, access, preservation, and disposal of university archives and publications, regardless of format. The position collaborates with relevant partners in planning, creating, and managing digitized and born-digital university content. The University Archivist leads departmental efforts to capture, preserve, and make accessible web content administratively and culturally significant to the university, including material created by the administration, academic departments, and student organizations. This position provides reference assistance in support of the academic and research uses of the collection; and initiates outreach and instruction to teach library users how to effectively and efficiently locate information, appropriate research methodologies, and specific resources and discovery tools. The University archivist also engages in outreach activities, products, and events that encourage faculty, staff, and the general public to use university archives collections and services; and supervises interns and volunteers. Minimum qualifications include a Master's degree in Library or Information Sciences or a Master's degree in Archival Science or an equivalent advanced degree. Successful candidates are expected to have knowledge about the issues pertaining to the management of institutional records and records management principles and knowledge of trends in digital preservation management and preservation reformatting. Candidates are also expected to have one year experience with archival processing and descriptive practices and standards, particularly with minimal processing; one year experience in digitizing and working with digital content management systems; and experience selecting, capturing, and preserving at risk web content. Candidates should have at least six months of experience in the following: digital preservation or information management, including familiarity with tools and workflows to support ingest and management of born digital records; experience working with records retention schedules; and experience working with diverse groups of people at all levels in an organization. Preferred qualifications include one year experience with CONTENTdm and large-scale digitization in an academic environment; experience with metadata extraction, transformation, and repurposing; demonstrated experience with Archive-It; demonstrated experience in curating digital content in archival repository and digital content transformation tools; and one year experience working in an academic environment that successfully demonstrates collaboration with administrators, faculty, students, and alumni. Salary: $43,104 (flexible, depending upon qualifications). This is a full-time A&P, benefits-eligible position. The UTSA Libraries Special Collections preserves the legacies of UTSA, San Antonio, and South Texas through a rich array of primary sources. Strengths of the collections include UTSA's institutional history, San Antonio history, architecture, Mexican cookery, women and women's history, and the Texas-Mexico border region. The department has a growing digitization program, is a leader in social media outreach and web archiving, and actively engages with current and retired faculty. The John Peace Library is nearing the end of a four-year renovation process informed by fresh thinking on collection management and student intellectual engagement. The libraries are well-integrated into the intellectual life of campus through active partnerships with the Writing Center, Teaching and Learning Center, and Tomás Rivera Center for Student Success.
