We are seeking a programmer/consultant for a grant-funded project
involving the extraction of MARC records for open access ebooks housed
in the Internet Archive and available through the Open Library. The
records will be offered to libraries to add to their catalogs. We are
estimating about 40-60 hours of time over a period of 10 months. The
tasks will involve writing and running scripts to retrieve Open Library
data based on author/title lists; providing a human-friendly export to
be used for selection by the participating library; extraction of the
available MARC records for selected items; and clean-up of the MARC
records based on specifications. We want this person to be part of the
team, to bring ideas to what is essentially an experimental project.

The primary skills we need are:
- ability to work with Open Library APIs
- good skills working with MARC record output
- great patience in working with non-technical library staff

Knowledge of ebooks and ebook formats is a plus. Work experience with
libraries and especially public libraries will be very helpful.

Please respond directly to Karen Coyle, stating qualifications,
availability, and desired hourly consulting fee.
