The Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (RBMS) of the Association of College and Research Libraries, a division of the American Library Association, announces a request for proposals for migration and development of the section’s website. Section Overview RBMS strives to represent and promote the interests of librarians who work with rare books, manuscripts, and other types of special collections. The section plays a leading role in the local, national, and international special collections communities. It strives to represent and promote the interests of librarians, curators, and other specialists concerned with the acquisition, organization, security, preservation, administration, and use of special collections, including rare printed books, manuscripts, archives, graphics, music, and ephemera. Project Overview RBMS is soliciting proposals to assist with the migration of its current websites (http://rbms.info and http://new.rbms.info) into a single content management system. The section has selected WordPress for its new site. The new site should allow committee chairs to easily update content, and it should also allow for integration with social media platforms. Project Requirements 1. Create a development site in WordPress on RBMS servers for the development and testing of the section’s new website. 2. Customize the premium theme selected by the section (http://demo.designwall.com/dw-focus/) to ensure consistent branding across the site. 3. Use the section’s report on current website functionality (http://rbms.info/committees/website/RBMSWebsiteSurveyReport.pdf) to revise the current site’s architecture. 4. Create a work plan for migrating the existing 7,000+ web pages to WordPress. The RBMS web team will implement this plan. 5. Migrate the development site to the live site. Deadline The deadline for applications is April 1, 2014. Applications must be submitted by 1:00 pm, EDT. Proposal Requirements 1. The proposal must respond fully to all items in Project Requirements. 2. Evidence of experience with content migration and web development, including a reference for a similar project. 3. Details for a budget up to $2000. 4. Proposed schedule of completion. All work must be completed by July 31, 2014. 5. One (1) professional reference. Proposal Evaluation Criteria The RBMS web editors will review all proposals and select one whose product, pricing, and proposed schedule best fit the needs of the section.
