All,

To facilitate the discussion on the challenges of working with content creators in our CWG call next Wednesday, are there 3-5 members of the group who might be willing to speak briefly, for about 5 minutes or so, on your past, present, or future work with digital content creators? If so, please let us know! It would be great to hear a range of perspectives.

Thanks,
Christie and Abbie

Subject: [NDSA-CONTENT] CWG Meeting 9/3 minutes, and a preview of topic for 10/1 call

Hi all, apologies for the delay in getting these out.

Our meeting minutes from the last call (plus a link to a recording) are available here: http://www.loc.gov/extranet/wiki/osi/ndiip/ndsa/index.php?title=Meeting_Minutes_9/3/14

And notes are repeated below, for those who don't want to logon to the wiki...

We'll send a reminder Tuesday about the call Wednesday, October 1 at 11am ET, but we'd like to propose a continued brainstorming session on the questions we discussed in our September meeting:
1) What are the top challenges of working with content creators? and
2)What are the ways that the CWG can provide support for working with creators?

We encourage you to think about these topics, and send guidance/forms to us for addition to the list, which we think could grow to be a really helpful resource (or come prepared to show off examples of things if you've got them).

Thanks, and we'll talk to you next week!

Abbie & Christie

September 3 CWG Meeting minutes:

Welcome all new members!

During this meeting, the Working Group:

Discussed challenges of working with content creators (aiming to come up with the top 5-10):

* how to communicate standards to creators

* drawing lines around what an organization is willing to accept from creators

*         initiating contact with creators

* providing guidance to content creators on file naming, metadata

* communicating long-term value of content to creators (esp. for news, performance art)

* intersections with creators of citizen-generated content (people making videos/taking pictures of events in Ferguson, Missouri, for example)

*         more?

Discussed ways we can better understand and provide support for working with creators:

* Plan presentations on models for communicating with creators

* Compile a list of available/shareable guidance for working with creators

o http://library.duke.edu/rubenstein/uarchives/transfer/student-organizations (click the link in the right side box "Get started by completing this form!").

o   more?

Conduct more Content Matters interviews with creators and other stakeholders around valuable at-risk content

Continue to develop case studies to identify stakeholders and challenges to specific kinds of content

Also discussed the possibility of hosting a presentation with the Standards WG on the Council of State Archivists PERTTS portal (Program For Electronic Records Training, Tools, and Standards; http://rc.statearchivists.org/PERTTS/Default.aspx )

Lastly, the NDSA Web Archiving Survey report will be released soon! Feedback from the CWG is requested by COB, Monday, September 8.
