Library Digital Services Manager St. Edward's University Austin **Position Title:** Library Digital Services Manager **Description:** We're looking for a Library Digital Services Manager who is passionate about building solutions and solving problems. This position has both support and developer responsibilities -- the balance between them will evolve with the needs of the library. In this job, you will juggle multiple projects. You will translate high-level requirements into core functionalities and craft them into clean, well- documented code. You will rely on your debugging and problem-solving skills, as you consider and incorporate feedback. You will be asked to think about the big picture and learn new skills, as the job has the potential to grow with you. We work together to help people learn and gain access to resources, as we build the academic library of the 21st Century. **The kinds of things you'll likely do in this position:** • Support the library's core systems -- III's Millennium ILS and EBSCO's EDS search engine/discovery layer, as well as LibGuides, LibAnswers, ILLiad, and Ares. • Craft clean, maintainable, and tested code with the aid of modern MVC best practices, design patterns, and test frameworks. • Automate library processes, such as sending and receiving vendor data. • Build and support thoughtful integrations with multiple university systems. • Implement and support open source solutions such as Omeka, Islandora, Fedora Commons, or other similar institutional repositories. • Full life-cycle development, including design, development, implementation, and maintenance of websites and web applications from a combination of existing tools, frameworks, and custom, written-by-you code. • Support technology-related issues throughout the library. • Work both independently and with the rest of the systems team to execute both large and small-scale projects in a timely and efficient manner. • Manage version-controlled codebases through git, test them through continuous integration, and deploy websites to hosts. • Test and debug issues across multiple browsers and a variety of devices. • Occasionally write HTML, CSS (specifically Sass), and perhaps some JS to assist with the random front-end task. • Push code quality and the development process forward. **Requirements:** • Intermediate to advanced PHP backend development • Strong SQL knowledge of data definition (DDL), data manipulation (DML), PDO connections, and optimized queries for MySQL and other RDBM systems • Familiarity with development/deployment tools and processes, such as git (including git-flow) and SSH keys • Excellent written, verbal, and conversational communication skills • Ability to learn quickly and solve problems with creative solutions • Bachelor's degree in an area related to computer sciences or information systems or equivalent experience **Pluses:** • Experience with web development or technology support services in a library or academic setting supporting an ILS / LSP • Have experience with dynamic data-driven websites with relevant standards and technologies such as PHP, XML/XSLT, XHTML, CSS, or JavaScript MVC frameworks • Development experience with Drupal, including themes and modules • Working knowledge of front-end stuff (HTML5, CSS3/Sass and JS) • Experience with Agile, iterative development methodology • Knowledge of other back-end languages/frameworks (e.g., Node.js, Rails, etc.) • Knowledge of other database software (e.g., MongoDB, CouchDB, Redis, PostgreSQL, Cassandra) • Knowledge of front-end JS frameworks (e.g., jQuery, Ember, React, Angular) Qualified applicants are invited to apply online at www.stedwards.applicantpro.com.
