The best novel I read this year was _Americanah_ by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - http://chimamanda.com/books/americanah/ . It is a tender and personal but exquisitely sharp examination of race, identity, and immigration. The best comic I read this year was _Daytripper_ by Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá. http://www.vertigocomics.com/graphic-novels/daytripper . It's a few years old but it was new to me and absolutely blew me away. I'd call it a "quiet existential roller coaster", if pressed for a quote.
