The University of Michigan<https://www.umich.edu/> is seeking a qualified Director, Learning Innovation and Design to join a creative, talented and entrepreneurial team within the Office of Digital Education & Innovation<http://digitaleducation.umich.edu/> (DEI) that is shaping the digital learning landscape at U-M and beyond. The Director leads innovation in the area of design and technology-enhanced pedagogy in teaching and learning. The Director mobilizes the design community and provides strategic leadership in creating institutional culture and capacity for innovative design. The Director works closely with faculty in the design, development and evaluation of new digital learning initiatives that unlock engaged, personalized and lifelong learning.

DEI aims to redefine public residential education at a 21st century research university through the creative use of technology and targeted experimentation with digital programs in order to enable engaged, personalized and lifelong learning for the entire Michigan community and beyond. Through curricular innovation, leadership in learning analytics, and digital infrastructure at scale, we aim to transform the way we educate and engage our residential students.

The Director, Learning Innovation and Design reports to and works closely with the Assistant Vice Provost for Digital Education & Innovation to establish a vision for digital design at U-M. The Director creates, shapes and incubates new digital learning experiences including, but not limited to, experimentation with massive open online courses (MOOCs), blended learning, and digital engagement tools. This new position is an exciting role, working within a startup environment to develop, support, and launch new digital learning initiatives through collaboration with our world-class faculty of the University of Michigan.

Responsibilities

  *   Assist in the development of strategies to enhance learning experiences across online, blended and technology-enhanced initiatives
  *   Provide design consultation for individual faculty and academic units to advance innovative digital learning initiatives
  *   Mobilize the design community across campus to accelerate knowledge sharing, experimentation and prototyping
  *   Demonstrate and share a passion for digital learning in a collaborative environment
  *   Conduct and disseminate research and analysis on new and emerging technologies, instructional design theories, and approaches
  *   Work with faculty to design and develop new courses, enhance programs and strengthen digital engagement tools
  *   Help design new tools, templates, and resources that support faculty innovation in digital education
  *   Provide faculty development offerings which foster collaboration and adoption of effective practices for design and digital learning

Required Qualifications

  *   Master's degree and five or more years of related experience (instructional design, instructional technology, educational technology), or equivalent combination of education and experience
  *   Demonstrated vision for design and digital learning and deep understanding of the higher education landscape
  *   Demonstrated leadership in innovative pedagogical design
  *   Demonstrated supervisory professional experience
  *   Demonstrated experience designing and developing digital and blended learning courses
  *   Demonstrated initiative, independent judgment, diplomacy, and service-oriented attitude
  *   Pedagogical knowledge of online and hybrid teaching, including instructional design theory and blended delivery
  *   Strong commitment to teamwork and problem solving, as well as the ability to act independently
  *   Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  *   Demonstrated experience working across learning management systems
  *   Ability to manage workload under time constraints and conflicting demands
  *   Ability to work well in a multicultural and collaborative environment

Desired Qualifications

  *   Doctoral degree and 7-10 years of related experience (instructional design, instructional technology, educational technology), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  *   Experience in a research-focused university setting
