Digital Projects Librarian

  
An exciting opportunity exists to participate in transforming a medical
history collection as a companion to the Mutter Museum. The
transformed collection will be integrated with the Mutter Museum in embracing
21st century technologies and social patterns of information usage to achieve
new modes of discovery and scholarship within medical
humanities. The College of Physicians of Philadelphia seeks
a Digital Projects Librarian who is detail oriented and knowledgeable about
current trends and methodology in digitization to be a core contributor to
this transformation.

  
The Historical Medical Library of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia
(Birthplace of American MedicineSM) is one of the largest medical history
collections in the United States with over 325,000 volumes including
monographs, journals, manuscripts, archives, prints, photographs, pamphlets,
and incunabula. It was designated a historical library in
1996 to recognize its function as a repository for the history of medicine.

  
Responsibilities: Reporting to the College Librarian, the
Digital Projects Librarian will manage a portfolio of digital library
projects, providing the project management framework and technical know-how
needed to complete projects successfully. The Digital Projects Librarian
explores, recommends, and helps implement software tools and frameworks to
support digital library activities. S/he creates and maintains work procedure
documentation, provides training and support to the library staff involved
with projects and services, and participates in the gathering and analysis of
use data. Maintains in-depth knowledge of national standards and best
practices in the realm of metadata and digitization. The librarian will
participate in library-wide projects and activities and is expected to be
active professionally.

  
Requirements: Candidates will have a graduate degree in
library science from an ALA-accredited institution.

  
Candidates should have a minimum of one year's experience in developing and
managing digital assets, and creating metadata in support of digital image
libraries and/or exhibitions.

  
Candidates should have working knowledge of HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, PHP,
Ruby, MySQL, Apache, and JRE (Java Runtime Environment).

  
Candidates should have working knowledge of cataloging and metadata standards
and schema, including MARC, XML, EAD, DACS, LCSH and MeSH.

  
Essential skills: Experience with Dublin Core; experience
using content management systems, such as Omeka; experience using AWS (Amazon
Web Services), or other web/system administration; and excellent project
management skills.

  
Preferred skills: Experience using Archives Space;
experience supervising student interns; and the ability to perform copy
cataloging.

  
Salary is commensurate with experience plus excellent
benefits. This is a full-time, regular, exempt position.

  
Candidates must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time, be able to
walk up and down multiple flights of stairs, and be able to carry a 20 pound
box for a minimum of 20 feet.
