The University of Texas Libraries invites applications for the position of Humanities Librarian for Architecture and Planning (Librarian II.) The purpose of the position is, with focus on architecture and planning disciplines, to develop and curate resources; to develop, direct and provide innovative and creative approaches to services; and to engage and collaborate with constituents and staff to support scholarship, teaching, and research from within the User Services Division of the UT Libraries.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Serve as a liaison to the School of Architecture. Lead and manage library activities and staff that enable collection access and innovation. Reporting to the Associate Director for User Services, collaborates with the Archives Curator to co-manage areas of shared decision-making for the branch including strategic planning, administrative reporting, budgeting, facilities, liaison, stewardship and development, outreach and special projects. Provide reference and instruction services in subject areas relevant to the School of Architecture. Support digital scholarship in areas related to the School of Architecture and provide a broad perspective in Digital Humanities. Contribute to library-wide collection development and specialized areas of architecture and planning in all formats including distinctive rare publications. Participate in development activities and stewardship of donors. Engage in scholarly research activities to inform innovation and maintain expertise in a rapidly evolving field to advance priorities and strategic direction. Engage in service to The University of Texas Libraries, the university, and to the profession by participating in committee work, projects, and scholarship. Represent the library in cross-functional initiatives, cross-operational teams, and/or task forces across campus and in national and/or international professional organizations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program and a degree in the humanities. Proven successful experience as a liaison to constituents in a humanities discipline. Demonstrated commitment to user-centered service for a culturally diverse population. Demonstrated subject knowledge in one or more areas relevant to the School of Architecture, and of the digital humanities. Demonstrated reference, instruction and collection development experience in the arts disciplines. Demonstrated project management, organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills. Successful experience supervising staff. Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders. Ability to manage and work flexibly and creatively in a fast-paced, dynamic and evolving environment responding to innovation and change. Demonstrated effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Evidence of initiative and capacity for professional development, involvement in relevant professional organizations, and contribution to the field of librarianship. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced degree in architecture or related humanities discipline. Demonstrated relevant experience: as an architecture or planning librarian conducting reference, instruction and collection development; as a branch or departmental manager. Demonstrated experience: providing public services in an academic context; working with special collections or archives; participating in digital initiatives, digital curation or digital humanities; in resource development activities including donor relations, outreach or public engagement. Demonstrated ability to manage working on fast paced, experimental, and short lived projects, as well as long-term, large-scale projects. Demonstrated knowledge or understanding of humanities research processes and how technologies are affecting scholarly output. Demonstrated knowledge or understanding of scholarly communications issues. Reading proficiency in Spanish and/or a modern European language.
