JOB PURPOSE:

  
The Security & Storage Systems Administrator is a member of the Digital
Library Systems & Services (DLSS) systems team. In addition to providing
general systems and developer support for the Libraries' Linux and VMware
environment, this role works with peers in DLSS and across campus to ensure
compliance of Library systems with University security policies and also
supports DLSS' NetApp storage systems and TSM backup infrastructure.

Digital Library Systems & Services, a division of Stanford University
Libraries (SUL), serves as the digitization, digital preservation and access
systems provider for SUL. It is also the research and development unit for new
technologies, standards and methodologies related to library systems. DLSS is
a diverse, welcoming organization that encourages individual growth and work-

systems administration fundamentals to develop new skills as part of a small,
multi-disciplinary team.

The Security & Storage Systems Administrator reports to the Technology
Infrastructure Manager, DLSS.

  
CORE DUTIES*:

* Act as a primary resource and subject matter expert for network security and storage issues at Stanford Libraries.  
* Support developers in an Agile software development environment.  
* Build, install, configure, analyze, tune, and troubleshoot operating system to conform to security best practices.  
* Resolve difficult system problems and provide consultation or training.  
* Configure and assist in the design of system and network security.  
* Manage hardware, software, and utilities for installation, modification, troubleshooting, maintenance, and upgrades of operating systems and workstation environments using Puppet, Cobbler, Kickstart, Splunk and VMWare tools.  
* Monitor and analyze resource usage to recommend/develop enhancements to system capabilities and performance.  
* Compare, evaluate, and implement new technologies, and integrate systems into the computing environment.  
* Document systems infrastructure for users, support and consulting personnel, and developers.  
* Act as liaison with various departments across campus.  
* Facilitate vendor relationships.

Qualifications

  
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  
Education & Experience:

  
Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of
education and relevant experience. A degree in Computer Science, Information
Systems or similar field is preferred. Prior experience in an information
security or storage administration role is preferred.

  
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  
* Experience with multiple types of operating systems or expert knowledge in one.  
  
* Experience with managing an integrated computing environment.  
  
* Extensive experience in multiple programming languages for system development.  
  
* Experience with networked environments.  
  
* Experience with network storage solutions.  
  
* Experience with configuring and maintaining routers.  
  
* Demonstrated knowledge of security protocols.  
  
* Ability to manage shared resources and perform moderately complex tasks.  
  
* Ability to work well independently and as a team member.  
  
* Ability to train to others in applications and operating system fundamentals.  
  
* Experience with middleware and infrastructure.  
  
Preferred:

  
* Expert Linux knowledge, including familiarity with Cobbler and Kicktstart, and managing Linux virtual machines in a VMWare environment.  
  
* Experience managing Linux system configuration using Puppet.  
  
* Experience writing scripts in Bash, Perl, Ruby, or Python.  
  
* Experience managing NetApp arrays or similar enterprise storage systems.  
  
* Experience with Tivoli Storage Manager or similar enterprise backup.  
  
* Experience with version control systems, trouble ticket queues and wiki CMS such as Git, Atlassian Confluence and Jira.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  
* Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.  
  
* Frequently sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.  
  
* Occasionally stand/walk, use a telephone, writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.  
  
* Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), grasp forcefully lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 21>40 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  
* Exposed to high voltage electricity, noise >80dB TWA, confined spaces, hot temperatures, heavy metals.
