AV & Digital Processing Archivist Computer History Museum Mountain View AV & Digital Processing Archivist Summary The AV & Digital Processing Archivist has primary responsibility for the Museum's moving and still image, and audio collections. The Archivist will also actively process the Museum's digital collection. Tasks include processing audiovisual (AV) materials, new digital object donations, and the Museum's in-house media productions. The individual will actively ingest content into the digital repository. The position requires an individual who is self-motivated and eager to learn and explore. The successful applicant will have an understanding of a variety of technologies related to AV and digital preservation, and will keep abreast of new technical information and developments relating to the life cycle of digital objects. Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Arrange, describe, preserve, and make accessible AV and digital materials following archival practices * Work with the Museum's media production unit in transferring productions to the Museum's digital repository * Work closely with Museum's Processing Archivist and Registrar in accessioning incoming AV and digital donations and inclusion of AV materials within Museum's finding aids * Develop and revise cataloging and reference guidelines, workflows, and procedures for the AV collection * Manage workflows with commercial moving image digitization vendors ensuring all work meets accepted archival and preservation standards while consulting with Museum's media production unit * Respond to external and internal AV requests and provide access to materials in the digital repository * Perform quality control and assessment of duplicate digital materials * Support curatorial staff in identifying potential materials for use in upcoming exhibits, digitization and cataloging * Take an active role in the Museum's social media and web publishing endeavors * Support Museum special events as needed * Supervise and train volunteers and interns to assist in the physical organization, processing, and data entry of the AV collection * Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Background, Experience, and Education: * Masters in Library Science, Museum Studies or equivalent experience * 1 year experience working in an archive, library, historical society, or museum * Demonstrated knowledge and experience in moving image processing and preservation standards * Demonstrated knowledge and experience in digital preservation standards * Knowledge of administrative, technical, structural and descriptive metadata standards such as PREMIS, DACS, EAD, METS, and Dublin Core * Excellent written and oral communication skills * Willingness to embrace new technologies and processes for streamlining traditional archival and/or museum practices, including MPLP * Expertise with relational databases and/or digital asset management systems * Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities * Detail-oriented and ability to be flexible * Ability to work both independently and collaboratively * Ability to work in a fast-paced environment * Sense of humor Preferred Qualifications, Attributes and Skills: * 1 year experience working with moving image and/or digital collections * Basic IT skills including an understanding of networking, shell scripting, and Ubuntu * Experience providing reference services * Knowledge of video production processes and standards * Knowledge of Mimsy XG museum collections management database * Knowledge of Archivematica digital repository software * Experience working with volunteers and interns * Knowledge of intellectual property issues.
