**Position Summary:**  
  
This is a full-time exempt position providing library services with a focus on
emerging technologies and Reference oversight. Serve as Library Webmaster.

  
  
**Description of Key Responsibilities:**  
  
1. Serve as webmaster and lead designer for the Library Services Web site.
Oversee and implement site design; code all web pages and perform web
programming and application development tasks; write, edit and maintain
website content, with participation by other members of the library staff;
monitor, troubleshoot and regularly update website code and content; review
and maintain compliance with World Wide Web Consortium standards, as defined
at http://www.w3.org; regularly evaluate emerging technologies, modules and
practices for inclusion on the Library website; compile and evaluate usage
statistics; and, manage and oversee creation of graphic and video elements.

  
2. Work with Information Technology Services staff to implement and maintain
library software, hardware, and shared server platforms. Work with Information
Technology Services on special projects.

  
3. Hire and train Reference Services Librarians. Schedule, supervise, and
assess Reference Services Librarians. Coordinate special projects and
professional development opportunities for Reference Services Librarians.
Hire, train, and supervise student assistants as needed.

  
4. Oversee information and reference services. In conjunction with director of
library services, develop and evaluate information and reference services
policies and procedures; train and evaluate staff working at Information
Services Desk with respect to reference services; manage e-mail, chat, social
networking and other online reference services; identify, evaluate and
recommend emerging technologies supporting reference and outreach functions;
coordinate on-call reference hours, and manage rotation among librarians;
compile and evaluate reference statistics.

  
5. Participate in evaluation and assessment activities. Regularly assess
information and reference services, including the Information Services Desk
and the Reference Collection; regularly assess the design, content,
performance, and perform usability testing of the Library website; conduct, as
needed, web site testing, focus groups and surveys; and, engage in Library
assessment activities as requested by the Director.

  
6. Serve as library liaison to a particular division, which includes annual
collection development and library instruction responsibilities.

  
7. Work with the Technical Services staff to update and maintain the public
user interfaces for library software applications, including federated search
engines, link resolvers, library databases, and library catalog web
interfaces. Work with Technical Services and Information Technology Services
staff to update and maintain the College's institutional repository. Work with
Access Services staff to maintain interlibrary loan systems.

  
8. With the Director's approval, may participate in library grant
applications.

  
9. Cooperate as a team member with the library staff in performing any duties
essential to efficient library operations.

  
10. Attend seminars and training sessions to improve or update position
oriented skills and knowledge, when appropriate and funds permit.

  
11. Participate in local, state, and national library organizations, when
appropriate and funds permit.

  
12. Fulfill other related duties as assigned by designated supervisor(s).

  
  
**Distinguishing Characteristics:**  
  
In conjunction with the director of library services, the individual in this
position serves as webmaster and lead designer for library web services. The
individual in this position must cooperate as a team member with the library
staff in performing duties essential to efficient library operations. Because
the duties of this position require extensive personal interaction with
students, faculty, and staff, excellent interpersonal and communication skills
are essential.

  
  
**Education/Training:**  
  
Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution is
required.

  
  
**Experience:**  
  
Experience with web-page development, XHTML and CSS and knowledge of web
standards are required. Experience with PHP and/or PERL for web application
development is strongly preferred. Reference experience and knowledge of
online and print reference resources and services is required. Experience with
an integrated library system, preferably Voyager, and ILLiad are strongly
preferred. Teaching or library instruction experience is strongly preferred.
Experience with an institutional repository, preferably on the DSpace
platform, is preferred. Collection development experience in an academic
library setting is preferred.
