Data Curation Officer, UK Data Service University of Essex Colchester The UK Data Service, the national data service for the social sciences, is seeking to appoint a Data Curation Officer to work within the UK Data Archive's Ingest Services team on the curation of data and documentation for preservation and secondary use by social science researchers and research institutions. This is an exciting chance to join a highly-specialised team in a pre-eminent, well-respected data service. Duties of the post include the curation of data and accompanying documentation to high security standards, including conversion between different software and formats, enhancing and adding value to data products and preparing structured dataset metadata. We are looking for an individual with a background in the social sciences and robust quantitative data skills, including: experience with SPSS, R and other statistical software packages (such as Stata); an awareness of data security and confidentiality. You should also have a strong interest in data curation and an awareness of advances in the data world, such as big data and data visualisation. You will be organised and self-motivated, able to pay close attention to detail and have excellent communication skills. This is a part-time, fixed-term position until 30 September 2017.
