Hi everyone!

This is an invitation to participate in the Digital Library Federation Assessment Interest Group’s (DLF AIG) working group on Web Analytics in 2017. There is more information about the group below, but first, a few words about participating in DLF AIG.

The only requirement for participation in a DLF AIG working group is a willingness to dig in and devote a small part of your time contributing to the tools, methods, and body of knowledge on digital library assessment. Attendance at the DLF forum is not a requirement for participation in any of the working groups. Additionally, if your institution is not a DLF member, you can still participate.

Web Analytics Working Group: What is it?
The Web Analytics Working group formed in Fall 2014. More information on the history and scope of the group can be found on our wiki (https://wiki.diglib.org/Assessment:Analytics).

In 2016, the group created an annotated resource list (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1myLG8GoNmgxjvvISRNKTIuLI1EQSVh_jVcYwNSoWFC8/edit) of resources for digital library staff and managers which is intended to provide case studies of how digital libraries use web analytics to assess their programs, collaborate with other institutions, make decisions, and more. The bibliography will be an evolving resource with new additions over time.

In 2015, the DLF AIG analytics working group published the white paper, "Best Practices for Google Analytics in Digital Libraries" (https://osf.io/ct8bs/). The white paper is intended for digital library managers, and curators who want to use analytics to understand more about users of, access to, and use of digital library materials.

Web Analytics Working Group in 2017
We have several ideas for goals and deliverables in 2017, and plan on selecting and refining our project ideas in January based on the interests of new and returning members. Some possible goals include, but aren't limited to:
- Continuing development of the annotated bibliography
- Facilitating webinars
- Fostering a community of practice around web analytics
- Collaboration with other AIG working groups

How can you participate?
Subscribe to our Google Group (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/digital-library-analytics). Here, you will find information about participating in our first meeting of 2017 in the coming days, about subsequent meetings, and web analytics-related topics.

For questions about the DLF Web Analytics Working Group, contact Rita Johnston as [log in to unmask]. For questions about the larger DLF Assessment Interest Group, contact the DLF AIG co-leaders, Sara Rubinow [log in to unmask] and Santi Thompson [log in to unmask].
