*Primary Duties and Responsibilities: *

Reporting to the Director of Library Technology and Knowledge Management,
the Head of Cataloging Services and Metadata Strategy oversees the metadata
practices governing the description of all of the library’s curated assets,
ensuring optimal discovery. Supervises staff in the evolution of metadata
practices and workflows related to MARC and Non-MARC formats, and serves as
the library’s domain expert in emerging descriptive ontologies. The Head of
Cataloging Services and Metadata Strategy will collaborate extensively with
Library Technology Development, Special Collections, Digital Library
Initiatives, and other departments to plan, implement, and integrate
various metadata repositories, and to identify appropriate metadata schemes
and standards for digital or other collections, and ensures optimal
discovery through online interfaces. Additional responsibilities include
training in the use of systems and software tools for batch processing,
analyzing, editing, updating, and quality review of library metadata.
Performs related duties as assigned.

*Required Education and Experience:*

ALA accredited Master’s in Library Science, or post graduate degree in a
related discipline, and five (5) years post-MLS cataloging or database
management experience in an academic, research, or large public library
system to include supervisory and training experience. Demonstrated
experience using OCLC Connexion, OCLC WorldShare Management System, digital
repository platforms, integrated library systems, and data manipulation
tools including OpenRefine, XSLT, and MARCEdit.

*Required Skills and Abilities:*

* Knowledge of applicable national cataloging and database standards
(AACR2rev, RDA, LCSH, LC classification)

* Advanced knowledge of traditional and emerging metadata schemes including
MARC, Dublin Core, EAD, MODS, BibFrame, and other RDF based ontologies.

* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a complex and
rapidly changing environment.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills.

* Evidence of ongoing professional growth and awareness of current/emerging
trends in librarianship.

*Preferred Skills and Abilities:*

* Evidence of strong planning and project management skills.
