Andy, thanks. This is a good example of the kinds of
instructions/documentation that profiles can carry. For some reason, I'm
having trouble getting across to folks outside the more "humanistic"
metadata world the need for explanatory text. Maybe the sciences have
clearer data needs? And they truly can't grasp "mandatory if applicable"
which describes much bibliographic and archival data. And try telling
them that not every foaf:firstName will have a foaf:familyName
("Homer"). I think we forget how complex our data is, and no wonder we
find it hard to validate and to do quality control!
