By popular demand, DLF and the HBCU Library Alliance are extending the deadline for applications to join in the first year of our new, collaborative fellowship program, the Authenticity Project!

Our new deadline is 11:59pm EST on 2 December 2018.

This includes

  *   applications by mid- to early-career HBCU library staff to join the first annual cohort of 15 Authenticity Project Fellows
  *   offers by senior HBCU librarians to serve these fellowship winners as Mentors, and
  *   expressions of interest by members of the broader DLF community in being matched with a Fellow for mutual learning and exchange, as a Conversation Partner.

The HBCU Library Alliance and Digital Library Federation have jointly launched a new fellowship and networking program:

Generously supported by the IMLS, the Authenticity Project will provide mentoring, learning, and leadership opportunities for 45 early- to mid-career library staff from American HBCUs (historically black colleges and universities), along with opportunities to build more genuine exchange and authentic connections among participants from HBCUs and PWIs (predominantly white institutions). The fellowship application is open now through November 16th. December 2nd!

Each year, 15 Fellows will:

  *   receive full travel, lodging, and registration expenses for the next DLF Forum conference and Learn@DLF workshops, along with special opportunities to present and share
  *   participate in a facilitated mentoring and networking program (with each Fellow matched to two volunteers: a senior mentor from the HBCU Alliance and a peer “conversation partner” from the DLF community)
  *   have the opportunity to apply for inter-institutional, project-based microgrants, to foster leadership among the fellowship cohort and deeper and broader collaboration among DLF and Alliance member organizations
  *   gain access to an always-available Slack space, email list, and quarterly facilitated, synchronous, online video-networking sessions for Fellows, mentors, and eventual microgrant project partners


Who’s eligible:
Authenticity Project Fellows will be early- to mid-career librarians, archivists, or any other library employees who currently work at HBCUs and are interested in advancing their knowledge, skills, and professional connections in digital library work. Fellows will commit to participating in the program for one full year, from January-December 2019.

How to volunteer as a mentor or partner:
We are currently seeking<https://goo.gl/forms/SW3RqyrkFjIxqmS73> volunteers from the HBCU Library Alliance and DLF communities to act as Authenticity Project mentors and conversation partners in the program’s inaugural year. Mentors should be senior HBCU librarians interested in fostering a new generation of library workers. Conversation partners should be peers at early- and mid-career levels, doing digital library work at a PWI and interested in mutual learning and exchange. Volunteers who are matched with a Fellow will participate in quarterly phone or video chat discussions on provided topics, receive access to a supportive community of peers, and will be granted small annual stipends in acknowledgment of their time and commitment to the program. Mentors from HBCUs will additionally receive free registration to the DLF Forum or an equal amount in discretionary travel funding to help support an optional in-person meeting with their mentees:
