Summary

The IT/Systems Manager maintains organization effectiveness, efficiency, and security of all information technologies including, but not limited to, the local area network, backup and storage infrastructure onsite and in the cloud, digital asset repository, online resources, office technologies, and event audio/visual hardware. They are responsible for designing and implementing strategic plans for technology and institutional policy. Serves as a Department Head and supervises the Digital Collections Archivist and Digital Initiatives Librarian.

Directs and prioritizes the work load of IT Department personnel
Ensures the day-to-day operation of the library’s IT infrastructure such as its LAN networks, data backup, disaster mitigation, e-mail, remote connections, phones, servers and PC’s
Ensures the creation, accuracy, and accessibility of all departmental documentation and organization policies including, but not limited to, the Technology Strategic Plan, Technology Disaster Preparedness Plan, and IT asset management charts
Ensures digital assets are secure, accessible, and meet accepted archival standards for long term stewardship
Ensures the consistency and maintainability of existing hardware and software by creating, maintaining, and enforcing standards/procedures for implementing technical solutions
Participates on all hardware and software evaluations and maintains vendor contracts
Performs liaison duties between users, operations, and programming personnel in the areas of systems design and implementation, modifications or trouble shooting
Plans and prioritizes long-range projects to ensure continuing compatibility of projects, interoperability of systems, and effective use of current IT infrastructure and software
Experience in implementing effective and innovative software development methodologies
Ensures that all projects assigned are delivered on-time, within scope, and within budget. Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives involving all relevant stakeholders, ensure technical feasibility, and participate in project grant writing and reporting
Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
Experience in grant writing as well as other funding requests
Solid writing skills
Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and motivate professional staff
Analytical and problem solving skills
Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies.
Broad knowledge of varied IT systems infrastructure, concepts, and methodologies
Advanced knowledge of Server architecture, business networks and security

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has supervisory responsibilities over 2 employees, the Digital Collections Archivist & Digital Initiatives Librarian.

Physical Demands

Must be able to work at a computer/desk for extended periods of time and lift up to 20lbs. Some bending and kneeling required. Job entails exposure to fragile, rare historic materials and occasional exposure to high levels of various allergens that sometimes accompany them, including but not limited to photographic chemicals, dry rot, mold, mites, and dust.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time (35 hour week) position. This position requires on call 365-7-24 for emergency situations.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field
Minimum of 5 years’ experience within the Information Technology field
2-3 years of management experience
Project management certification or experience with managing multiple projects

Baseline Knowledge & Skills Preferred

Knowledge of, or experience in, special collections libraries helpful but not required.

Excellent knowledge of technical management, information analysis, and of computer hardware/software systems. Hands-on experience with computer networks, network administration and network installation. Strong working knowledge and experience with a wide range of technologies, software, and platforms, including the development and use of office applications, databases, Internet applications, Web-based software, cloud storage, and Web programming languages. Applied knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud – Dreamweaver, SalesForce NPSP; Archivists Toolkit; MARC Edit; FileMaker Pro; Constant Contact; Islandora, Aleph (ExLibris); SBS 2011, Active Directory/Dashboard, Exchange; WordPress; Drupal; HTML, XHTML, XML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, JQUERY, XSL, MARC, DC, MODS, & EAD; and industry standard data fixity and preservation tools.
