Harassment and retribution are real issues, but so is the fact that some of
the most toxic cesspools on the internet are dominated by tech oriented
males who use anonymity to treat others horribly. Lack of accountability
makes it that much harder to separate bots and trolls from people who need
help.

Honest rather than reactive discussion strikes me the way forward.

Otherwise, everyone can wonder why there are hardly any conversations that
help people expand their passion for and understanding of library tech on a
list ostensibly dedicated to that specific purpose.
