Summary: In early 2000s, the concept of "library brand" emerged. Many studies such as The Library Brand 2010 report published by OCLC stated that "Libraries = books". Is that still true for academic libraries? To establish a successful library brand for academic libraries, it is important to understand faculty and student needs and perceptions and how that can present opportunities or barriers. This presentation summarizes the results of three campus-wide user surveys conducted by the University Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Additional findings of US faculty perceptions of libraries and librarians are also presented.

Speaker: Jen-chien Yu is the Director of Library Assessment at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Previously she held the position as an Electronic Information Services Librarian/Data Specialist and Assessment Librarian at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. Jen received her MLIS from the University of Pittsburgh (2000) and a B.A. from Tamkang University in Taiwan.
As the Director of Library Assessment Jen coordinates library assessment programs and works closely with faculty and staff across the Library, and around the campus, to design and implement assessment activities that supports data-informed decision making related to library services, collections, technology, and facilities. Jen is a co-facilitator of the Big Ten Academic Alliance Library Assessment professional group. She is a CALA life member and has served on various CALA committees and the Board of Directors. She was the CALA MW president 2011-2012.

Many thanks!
