ALA Annual 2020: Digital Conversion Interest Group Seeks Presenters

**Please excuse any cross-postings**

The ALCTS PARS Digital Conversion Interest Group<http://www.ala.org/alcts/mgrps/pars/grps/ats-parigdc> is currently accepting proposals for 15 minute presentations at the ALA Annual Conference (Chicago, IL) on Saturday, June 27, 2020, 1:00pm-2:00pm.

This year’s theme is Digital Scholarship as it relates to projects or theory concerned with digitization, preservation, and access of print, audio, photographic, and moving image materials, as well as the migration, preservation, and access of born digital collections, including web-based and software-based materials. Both academic and public institutions are encouraged to propose presentations.

Special priority will be given to proposals that focus on digital conversion as it relates to the use of digital tools to explore scholarly questions and suggest new paths of inquiry. Topics may include:

  * Projects featuring digitized or reformatted content utilized in a digital scholarship project

  * Collaborations with faculty or scholars employing digital tools to conduct research

  * Influencing digital conversion methods through feedback from digital scholars

  * Collaborations with library information technology experts and staff on digital scholarship projects

  * Integration of digitized/reformatted collections in projects around digital exhibits like Omeka or Scalar, multimodal publishing, information visualization, geospatial data, text analysis, or digital editions

  * Promoting digitized/reformatted collections related to underrepresented groups (whether through social media, presentations, cooperation with historical societies and/or genealogical societies)

In addition, Ginnie and Roger plan to lead a discussion as a brainstorming exercise around the concept of a “Digitization in Action” program that we might plan for 2021. This would follow the structure of the ALCTS PARS “Preservation in Action<http://www.ala.org/alcts/pia>” program and provide for hands on, on-site interaction and demo of a digital reformatting operation.

Please email a 200 word proposal to the co-chairs (Virginia Dressler<mailto:[log in to unmask]> or Roger Smith<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) by May 3, 2020

Also, the co-chairs are also seeking a new co-chair to serve from 2020-2021. Please send an email to express your interest. In this role, you will work alongside a co-chair (Roger Smith, UC San Diego Library) to plan and coordinate IG meetings for the ALA annual meeting (Midwinter is not required, but encouraged).
